“Do you think you’re an expert?”
Someone asked me this recently—and it caught me off guard. Not because I hadn’t considered it before, but because it forced me to define a word we throw around far too loosely.
What Is an Expert?
Here’s how I see it:
- Experts have experience. They’ve tested things, failed at some, and refined what works.
- They don’t just talk theory—they have a track record. Their insights are rooted in results.
- They are learning machines—always improving, always evolving.
They’re not know-it-alls. In fact, they’re often the first to admit how much they don’t know. That humility? That hunger to keep growing? It’s what separates a flash-in-the-pan from someone you can trust.
By that definition, yes—I’ve earned the right to be called an expert. But I also know I’ve only scratched the surface. And that’s what keeps me getting up early, reading more, asking better questions, and staying coachable.
The Expert Who Changed My Life
As for my favorite expert? That’s easy: Jim Rohn.
In 1993, I listened to his audio series The Art of Exceptional Living, and it marked a turning point in my life. His calm wisdom, his clarity, his discipline—they shaped me.
They say when the student is ready, the teacher appears.
I was. And he did.
Time-Tested Mastery Principle: Experts never stop learning. They live with curiosity, humility, and the courage to keep evolving.
